Group Overview

Netcare is listed on the Johannesburg Securities Exchange (JSE) and has grown from four hospitals at listing 1996 to a current total of 62 hospitals owned and managed by the group. Turnover has grown concomitantly, reaching R 6 billion for the financial year ending September 2003. Equipped with 7200 beds, 319 operating theatres and 128 specialised medical units and supported by 2 486 medical specialists, Netcare's hospitals care for an estimated 800 000 patients every year.

The group also owns and manages Medicross, comprising 56 multi-disciplinary Medicross Family Medical and Dental Centres around South Africa serviced by 325 general practitioners and 153 dentists. Complemented by 43 pharmacies and 36 administered practices (representing a further 114 general practitioners), the Medicross centres provide primary healthcare services to approximately 4 million patients a year.

Spectrum of services

The hospital is fully geared to examine and treat the entire spectrum of urinary and prostate diseases as all the modalities of treatment are available at this highly specialised facility. The hospital was planned as a specialist centre of excellence and having state-of-the-art equipment and technology under one roof was an absolute priority regardless the cost involved.

The hospital is an accredited urology training centre with full teaching status and plays an integral role in the graining of young urologists, who gain exposure to surgical procedures they wouldn't otherwise encounter in their training. The hospital also trains nurses, not only for its own staff but also on behalf of other hospitals.
